  • Watch for early April migrants including: Eastern Phoebe, Eastern Towhee, Fox Sparrow, Field Sparrow, Wilson's Snipe and Tree Swallow. We'd love to hear what birds you're seeing. Send us your bird pics via Facebook message and we'll share them to our page.

  • Northern Cardinals begin nesting.
  • White-throated Sparrows begin calling. Click here to listen to their sweet songs.

  • Lyrids meteor shower occurs April 16th - April 25th. It is expected to peak around the 22nd.
  • Purple Martins (scouts) begin to arrive in mid-April. If you are a Purple Martin landlord, first of all, we appreciate you! Secondly, be sure to have their houses ready! Did you know this species is almost entirely reliant upon man-made housing?

  • Great Horned Owls have their young this month.
  • Ruby-throated Hummingbirds and Baltimore Orioles arrive late April/early May. Be sure to have their feeders ready by around April 15th.

  • Earth Day is April 22nd. We can protect the earth by protecting wild birds.
  • Common Loons finish their northward migration by the end of April. Some late migrants arrive in May.
  • Eastern Bluebirds are nesting by end of the month. If you live in areas with fields and woods, you may have the ideal habitat for these birds. Be sure to have their houses ready.
  • Late April migrants include: Brown Thrasher, Pine Warbler, Palm Warbler, American Bittern, Chimney Swift, Chipping Sparrow, Barn Swallow and Caspian Tern.
